It Has Been Done

Keeping this brief, I am happy to announce to the world that I made gumbo. I'm kind of astonished that my first time making this dish happens to be in Cairo. Amazing. The occassion is a Hurricanne Katrina Halloween Fundraiser happening this Friday. It is an all Southern affair--drinks, booze, music, food. Oddly enough, there happens to be quite a few people with connections to the South floating around Cairo. Hopefully my hands won't still smell like onions by the time of the party. Here is the evidence. If you could be as close to the pot as I am in the photo, you could tell that it's the real deal.
