There is some pretty interesting news coming out of New Orleans, most of which opened my eyes to the on-going confusion of the rebuild and the dire situation that many still face. Such news captures the emotional and physical problems associated with displacement and the clashes that occur when such issues cross hairs with the municipal authorities. I've added two blogs from writers based in New Orleans in my Friendly Blogs and Businesses sidebar--floodlines and Ken Foster. These blogs provide a very local, informed narrative of how it is to be in New Orleans right now. They explain how the city looks, how people are (dys)functioning, how the authorities are dealing with these people. This is more than just voyeuristic tragedy-hunting. By the sound of things, the city has got some real problems and strange situations rising on all corners.
Also, check out Jordan Flaherty's articles on the Left Turn website, especially the one titled "Changing New Orleans" from November 9. (Link provided in sidebar).
This blog, currently "uncurrent," could be considered one of the abandoned. Fitting into the early summer NYT article about dead sites as this, I am not vowing to continue, just to let it stay here, pickling in its own web juices to see what crawler picks it up to part of an internet "archive."
