I meant to post this super cool photograph of Lady Holly Ann a while ago. This shot was a complete accident, taken with my hand outstreched thinking I was taking a long shot of the two of us, but the zoom was on and this is what I came up with. Quite a sacred picture of such a celestial being~she truely is a deeply pensive creature with the spirit of the morning sun.
And I just wanted to say Hi to Agnieszka in Polonia! Jill, Holly, Kim and Scott in NYC. Mom, Dad, Aunt Margee. Angela soon-to-be-moving-to Austin. Kim & John, soon-to-be-parents in Denver :) Ravi, Vinnie and family, across the street from them. Hope in Chester, still! Ropes in Brighton. And KrissB at UNC. Of course wee hellos to loads of the rest of you that I sincerely hope are out there reading in secret.
In other news: one thing I depended on here is the Faculty Lounge library because there aren't due dates and fines. I just realized that I am staff, not faculty, and maybe I wasn't supposed to be using the Faculty Lounge this whole year, but I pulled it off without alarming the authorities. There are a few organized shelves of hardcovers in the collection of which I've been making my rounds, rereading or picking up recommendations. For Egyptian-related novels, Beer in the Snooker Club by Waguih Ghali was the best, followed by Aswany's The Yacoubian Building. I'm slowly eating up A Soldier of The Great War by Helprin because I can revisit that story like visiting a house on the beach. And I am rereading Motherless Brooklyn by J. Lethem, just to get me back in the NYC mood. And it's kind of working--the opening scene takes the reader from Manhattan into Greenpoint, Brooklyn on the same route I used to take home in the XYZ Lincoln Towncars from the 34th Street law offices to my apartment (except it never involved private investigators, mobsters and a murder).
There you have it: little pieces of brian-thougths for you.
